Argentina after first win of Week 3 against Korea

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 9, 2018 - Argentina face Korea Sunday in Aix-en-Provence in a bid to conclude the weekend with their first win of Week 3 (and second overall in the competition) at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. Korea are yet to win their first match in the VNL and trail Argentina 6-8 in their overall head-to-head.

Head-to-Head
• Korea and Argentina will meet for the 15th time in a world level major competition, with Korea winning six times and Argentina eight.
• World level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• Both Korea and Argentina have won four of their last eight encounters at world level major competitions, with Korea winning the first, third, fifth and seventh and Argentina the second, fourth, sixth and eighth.
• Their most recent encounters in world level major competitions came at the 2009 World League, when they met four times. Korea won twice, both in a five setter, Argentina won one in five sets and one in straight sets.
• In total, six of their 14 encounters in world level major competitions were five setters. Korea won four and Argentina two.

Korea
• Korea lost in straight sets against Serbia, marking their eighth consecutive defeat at the VNL.
• It was their seventh straight set defeat. They have not lost eight matches in straight sets in a single major world level competition since the 1997 World League (8).
• Korea are the only country without a win in the VNL match.
• Korea can lose nine matches in a single world level major competition for the first time since losing 10 matches at the 2015 World League.

Argentina
• Argentina lost 3-1 against France on Saturday, to record their seventh loss in eight VNL matches.
• The last time Argentina lost eight matches at a world level major tournament was at the 2010 World League, when they lost all of their 14 matches.
• Argentina have won at least two sets in eight of their last 13 matches in world level major competitions, but have won only three of these 13 matches.
• Martin Ramos scored a team-high 16 points, including 12 from spikes against France on Saturday.
