The 2018 edition of the VNL featured 16 teams per gender battling through five weeks of preliminary round action before the women's finals in Nanjing, China from June 27 to July 1 and the men's finals at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in northern France. USA defeated Turkey to claim gold in the women's competition. That victory was followed a week later by Russia's in the men's competition.
