Table leaders Dinamo Moscow battled it out through a tough five-setter at Lokomotiv Novosibirsk to defeat the defending Russian Superliga champions despite 32 points from Drazen Luburic for the home team.
After two hours and 21 minutes of play, Dinamo claimed a 3-2 (16-25, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11) victory, their 18th since the start of the season. Bulgarian star Tsvetan Sokolov was the winners’ top scorer with a 26-point tally, including three aces. With a total of 293 points so far, Dinamo’s opposite continues to have the league’s best average of 5.14 points per set.
Lokomotiv's Serbian international Luburic has the second best serving average of the league with 0.71 aces per set. He boosted that statistic with four direct points against Dinamo on Wednesday. His impressive total of 55 aces since the start of the season puts him in the lead of that ranking. Luburic’s match tally of 32 points also included three kill blocks.
Dinamo Moscow top the current Superliga standings on an 18-2 win-loss record, while Lokomotiv are in sixth position on 12-9. Kuzbass Kemerovo are second on 17-4, followed by Zenit Kazan on 17-7, Zenit Saint Petersburg on 15-7 and Fakel Novy Urengoy on 14-8.
