Sir Safety Conad Perugia have claimed the first of the two tickets to the final of the 2021 Italian Men's League Playoffs after shutting out Vero Volley Monza 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-21) on Sunday night to sweep their best-of-five semifinal series after only three matches.
They still have to wait for their opponent, though, as the other semifinal series continues with defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova leading 2-1 following their win at home on Sunday 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21) over Itas Trentino.
Perugia are in an Italian League final for the sixth time, but have ony won the trophy once, in 2018, prevailing over Lube.
Argentina international Sebastian Sole was awarded the MVP of the match award as he attacked for 85% (11/13) and added four blocks for a total of 15 points. His Cuban-born teammate Wilfredo Leon of Poland bagged the match high of 19 points.
Just a little earlier in the day, Cuban-born Yoandy Leal, scored a match high of 20 points with a 61% (14/23) attacking efficiency plus four blocks and two aces and was named MVP of the match in Lube's win - just less than two months before he joins the national team of Brazil for the FIVB Volleyball Nations League.
