Parubets recovers well ahead of national team season

Russia's scoring machine is out since November

Russian national team and Uralochka-NTMK Ekaterinburg scoring machine Kseniia Parubets is recovering well from the knee injury she sustained in late November and is expected to re-join her country's squad ahead of the key national team competitions this summer.

"Kseniia should recover before the Olympics. She is a fighter by nature. Now she is undergoing her last rehabilitation course in Italy and then she will return to Russia. I think she will be ready by the start of the national team’s pre-season training," Uralochka’s coaching staff member Vladimir Vertelko told RIA Novosti.

Parubets suffered a knee injury during a training session with her club team on November 25 and underwent surgery in Italy on December 16. She has missed most of the club season in Russia and is currently unable to play for Uralochka during the Final Six tournament which takes place in Kazan this week. Her fans, however, will hope to see the 26-year-old athlete fully recovered and on the court when the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League begins.

“I am in a fighting mood. I really want to return to my favourite work, to play volleyball, as soon as possible. I really want to help my team! Well, for those who follow, I want to share my progress, I feel that very soon I will be ready,” Parubets posted on Instagram last month.

She topped the best scorers ranking of the Russian Superliga last season on a total of 340 points piled up across 16 matches. At the beginning of the current season, before her injury, she tallied 187 points across eight games played and still has the highest average of 6.03 points per set in the league.

Since joining the Russian national team in 2015, Parubets has accumulated 105 caps and scored 898 points. The 1.83m-tall outside hitter helped Russia win bronze at the last major international competition held before the pandemic, the 2019 FIVB Volleyball World Cup. She was also part of the squad that won 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix silver and EuroVolley 2015 gold.
