Cucine Lube Civitanova have successfully defended their title after defeating Sir Safety Conad Perugia 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21) at home Saturday evening to complete the Italian Men's League best-of-five final series after only four matches.
Osmany Juantorena was named MVP of the game after scoring a match high of 19 points. Kamil Rychlicki added another 17 and Yoandy Leal 16 (including 15/24 for 63% in attack).
Perugia put up more of a fight than they had in the disastrous third match of the series, but were still no match for Lube. Wilfredo Leon was their top scorer on 17 points, including four blocks and two aces. Aleksandar Atanasijevic, who attacked for 67% (16/24) added another 16 points for Perugia.
It was the second time in a row that Perugia topped the Regular Season standings but failed to win the title. It was also the first time since 2017 that the title was decided in less than the full five matches of the final series.
It was overall the sixth championship title for Lube since their first success in 2006. Saturday's game marked the only home win in this season's final series.
Most of the players from Saturday's match will now be joining their national teams for the final preparations ahead of the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League which begins next month in Italy's Adriatic resort of Rimini.
