Sir Safety Conad Perugia rebounded after their loss last week to Cucine Lube Civitanova with a sweep on Sunday of bottom of the table Top Volley Cisterna, wrapping up their 2020 obligations in the Italian Men's League at the top of the standings.
Wilfredo Leon was once more man of the match, earning the game's MVP award in Perugia's 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-21) win on the road at Cisterna di Latina. The Cuban-born Pole scored 12 points, on par with Serbia's Aleksandar Atanasijevic.
It was Perugia's 14th win in 16 matches this season, widening the gap at the top to ten points from second placed defending champions Lube who are however on two matches less (12-2). Cisterna have won only one of their 16 matches.
Eleswhere on Sunday, Nimir Abdel-Aziz scored a stunning 30 points in four sets, as Itas Trentino bagged their eighth win on the trot (including the European Champions League) with a convincing 3-1 (25-18, 29-27, 23-25, 25-22) on the road at the PalaPanini over Leo Shoes Modena.
The Dutch opposite registered double the points of the next best scorers, Ricardo Lucerelli for Trentino and Luca Vettori for Modena.
After a slow start to the season, the result sees Trentino overtake Modena and shoot up to fourth place in the standings on an 8-5 record.
There's three more matches this week, including a rescheduled game of Trentino at Consar Ravenna from earlier in the season, before the League resumes in the new year with a full 17th Round of the Regular season scheduled for January 3.
