Sixteen of Europe’s leading beach volleyball teams are set to appear in Dusseldorf in Germany which is hosting the Nations Clash tournament at the Mitsubishi Electric Halle from February 4 to 7.
The tournament will feature a country's men’s and a women’s team competing together so that at the end of the week there will be one winning nation.
Beach volleyball fans can tune in to watch the action as the whole event will be broadcast for free on the streaming platform Twitch at twitch.tv/trops4.
The tournament organisation is led by Alexander Walkenhorst who played on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour from 2011 to 2019.
“I am very happy that we have managed to bring the European elite of beach volleyball to the sports city of Düsseldorf for the Nations Clash,” he said.
Hosts Germany will be represented by leading women duos Karla Borger and Julia Sude, and Victoria Bieneck and Isabel Schneider, while Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler, and Nils Ehlers and Yannick Harms are the men’s pairs.
Austria have sent two men’s teams, Vienna 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships silver medallists Clemens Doppler und Alexander Horst, and Julian Horl and Moritz Pristauz.
Switzerland and the Netherlands will both be represented by two men’s and women’s teams.
Nina Betschart and Tanja Huberli, and Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré will compete in the women’s competition, while Mirco Gerson and Adrian Heidrich, and Florian Breer and Marco Krattiger will compete in the men’s side of the draw.
Sanne Keizer and Madeleine Meppelink will lead the way for the Dutch women, alongside Katja Stam and Raïsa Schoon. In the men’s side of the draw the two Dutch teams are Jasper Bouter and Ruben Penninga, and Christiaan Varenhorst and Steven van de Velde.
A Czech-Swiss women’s team of Michaela Kubickova and Michala Kvapilova, and Esmee Bobner and Zoe Vergé-Dépré completes the roster.
The tournament will be held inside and will follow all current health guidelines notably the testing of athletes and officials.
