FIVB Volleyball U21 World Championships timeline change

The FIVB Board of Administration has approved the updated timeline for the FIVB Volleyball Under 21 (U21) World Championships as well as the Under 20 (U20) Continental Championships, which serve as the qualification tournaments for the U21 World Championships.

It has been confirmed that the next two editions of the U21 World Championships will be played in 2025 and 2028, and from then onwards the tournament will be held every two years. This change has been made in order to streamline the calendar for age-group tournaments, while ensuring a number of opportunities for young athletes to participate on the international stage.

Additionally, the timeline for the U20 Continental Championships, which act as qualification events to the World Championships, has been revised to move in line with the U21 tournament. The Continental Championships will now be played in 2024, then in 2027 and biennially from then onwards.

The FIVB reminds that the bidding process for the Volleyball Age Group World Championships 2025 is now open in the following categories: Girls’ U19, Boys’ U19, Women’s U21 and Men’s U21. Interested host cities and event organisers are welcome to submit their applications to volleyball@fivb.com by no later than 30 April 2024.
