France claim second 2019 VNL victory by defeating Serbia 3-1

Team of France celebrate victory over Serbia in Novi Sad.

Novi Sad, Serbia, June 1, 2019 - France claimed a 3-1 victory against hosts Serbia on day 2 of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League in Novi Sad.

Laurent Tillie, head coach of France: "We started too well, too easy, so I decided to make some changes and then we had to fight, Serbia came back and created problems for us. It was close in the end, but I am very happy and relieved with this victory."

Nikola Grbić, head coach of Serbia: "It was slightly better than yesterday. The guys want to do their best, I cannot object to that. We are moving slowly in the right dircetion. Don’t forget, all of these teams are playing together in the national roster as well as in the clubs for several years. Our guys never played together, so it is very difficult to bring them to understand better each other on court. But we are on the right track, I hope."

Antoine Brizard, team captain of France: "It was again a tough game, but totally different to yesterday. Serbia play a different style of volleyball, and I think it was an interesting match."

Lazar Ćirović, Sebia: "First of all, the energy was better today. Of course we are still too stressed, we are not used to playing together, but we did fine this evening. We even had a chance to win, I think, but ok. I think these guys will perform better with each match they play."
