The Swedish Volleyball Association (SVA) is one of the many National Federations taking advantage of the opportunities the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme has to offer, most recently hosting a knowledge transfer course with the help of renowned Dutch coach Gido Vermeulen.

The SVA has so far been allocated a total of CHF 170,000 worth of Volleyball Empowerment assistance. That amount includes a total of CHF 8,000 for knowledge transfer programme activities for the development of national team coaches, specifically CHF 3,000 for beach volleyball and CHF 5,000 for volleyball.

In the framework of the indoor volleyball knowledge transfer programme, the renowned Dutch volleyball coach Gido Vermeulen conducted a three-day training course at SVA’s National Sports Gymnasium in Falkoping (pictured in the photo; credits: volleyboll.se). The training was focused on the junior national team operations and was attended by eight volleyball instructors, in addition to SVA Sports Director Angelica Ljungqvist and National Sports Gymnasium Director of Operations Ulric Svensson.

“Through the course that took place at our national volleyball training centre in Falkoping, talented coaches related to our junior and youth national teams got the chance to develop their skills and abilities,” SVA President Annika Sjoberg told FIVB.com.

The training effort was led by volleyball expert Gido Vermeulen, whose extensive coaching career he seen him be at the helm of senior, junior and youth national teams of the Netherlands in both genders, as well as the women’s national team of Spain, several club teams from various countries and, most recently the men’s national team of Egypt.

“These were incredibly rewarding days in Falkoping where Gido shared his broad and deep knowledge and experiences from a range of different areas,” said Angelica Ljungqvist. “In a few days we learned a lot about a lot and had some real eye openers. We have received concrete proposals and recommendations on how we can and need to improve our junior national team operations in the short and the long term.”
