News 11/08/2020 Volleyball dominates list of greatest Brazil Olympians Lausanne, Switzerland, August 11, 2020 - A total of 28 volleyball players feature prominently amongst the top Olympians of Brazil in a poll set up by the Globo news network to celebrate the 100 years since the country's first Olympic medal (by shooter Guilherme Paraense at the Antwerp 1920 Games).The Rio 2016 MVP Serginho, who helped Brazil strike gold at their 'home' Olympics, is the first volleyball player on the list, in 5th place overall.The top female athlete in the overall list, in 8th place, is Jackie Silva, who alongside teammate Sandra Pires, were the first ever beach volleyball Olympic gold medallists, when the discipline was introduced to the Games at Atlanta 1996.Amongst the Top 10 is also Sheilla Castro, a two-time gold medallist in Beijing 2008 and London 2012 as opposite of the Brazil team.Further down the list another legendary libero, Fabi, features in 14th position for her gold medals at Beijing 2008 and London 2012. And three-time Olympic medallist on the beach (gold at Athens 2004, bronze at Beijing 2008 and silver at London 2012) Emanuel Rego comes in at 16th.Sandra Pires comes in at 24th, followed by Giba just one spot down.
