News 01/06/2020 Player of the week: Eda Erdem Lausanne, Switzerland, June 1, 2020 - Turkey's formidable middle blocker Eda Erdem has been leading her country's national team and her club of Fenerbahce Istanbul for a decade now, playing a critical role in both teams' international and domestic successes.Erdem, who turns 33 later this month, was first called to Turkey's national team in 2005. Though a major international gold still eludes her, she has picked up silver medals at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and the 2019 European Championship.Previously she had won bronze medals at the 2012 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix and at the 2011 and 2017 European Championships. In her club career she has never moved out of Istanbul, joining the age groups of Besiktas in 2000 and moving up the ranks to the senior side in 2004. In 2008 she moved cross-town to Fenerbahce where she has remained ever since, eventually being promoted up to captain of the team. With Fenerbahce she has won five national Turkish League and three Cup titles, but she has also some major international achievements under her belt. She helped Fenerbahce win the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship title in 2010 and followed up with a gold in the 2012 European Champions League.Erdem is obviously known for putting a stop on her opponents' attacks with her impenetrable blocking, but she's also fearsome from the service line. She was named best server in the 2010 FIVB Club World Championship, as well as the 2011 European League.More recently she was named as middle blocker on the Dream Teams of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, as well as three times in a row at the 2015, 2017 and 2019 European Championships. She was also a middle blocker (alongside Robin de Kruijf of the Netherlands) on the Dream Team of the European qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games earlier this year, after helping Turkey make their second Olympics after London 2012.Follow Eda Erdem on Instagram, Twitter and her personal official website.Player of the Week features:Week 1: Yuji NishidaWeek 2: Annie DrewsWeek 3: Klemen CebuljWeek 4: Brayelin MartinezWeek 5: Milad EbadipourWeek 6: Gabi GuimaraesWeek 7: Karol KlosWeek 8: Onuma SittirakWeek 9: Simone GiannelliQuick links - Volleyball:FIVB.comFacebookTwitterInstagramYoutube Print this Page News {{item.LocalShortDate}} {{item.Title}} All the News
