Gabi soars high in VNL 2019

Gabi Guimaraes inspired Brazil to upgrade their fourth-place finish in the inaugural edition to a silver medal finish in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

After a knee injury in 2017, Gabi made a much-anticipated return at the 2018 VNL. She had to be patient and make adjustments as an athlete in recovery, but nevertheless still managed to record 94 points in the tournament and was the team's second best scorer in the final round. Her 2019 performance was a big boost to Brazil's podium quest, as she was the top Brazilian scorer with a total of 323 points and the best receiver with a 37.66 efficiency percentage in the final round.

The Belo Horizonte native began playing for Mackenzie Esporte Clube from 2009 to 2012, then had a six-year stint with Rio de Janeiro Volei Clube, where she won five consecutive Superliga championship titles. She moved to Minas Tenis Club in 2018, then flew to Turkey to banner two-time FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship winners VakifBank Istanbul since 2019. This season, Gabi and VakifBank won the Turkish League title and claimed the CEV Champions League silver medal.
