Sunday Superstar: Markus Mol

 

Whizz through Markus Mol's answers to our Sunday Superstar questionnaire. Younger brother of Anders Mol, the 18-year-old tells us all about himself.

Markus Mol has participated in two FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events to date. The first was in Norwegian capital Oslo, playing with Christian Sorum, when he finished second to brother Anders and Nils Ringoen. Markus Mol and Nils Ringoen also earned a ninth-place finish at the Ljubljana 1-star earlier this month.

1. Who is your hero?
When it comes to volleyball I have always looked up to my older brothers, and wanting to compete at their level.

2. If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I love my home country Norway, but during the winter I would live somewhere warm.

3. What is your training routine?
I train at ToppVolley Norway, where we practice between 20-25 hours a week. We train both indoors and outdoors, in addition to strength.

4. What is your favourite family vacation?
It is going on trips with my extended family, both abroad and in Norway. 

5. What part of your game do you really want to improve?
I would like to improve my serving and setting.

6. How do you handle frustrations on the court?
I try to keep my calm and always focus on what I can do to make the next action better.

7. What motivates you to work hard?
Wanting to improve myself and my game.

8. What is your favourite victory so far in your career?
Beating my big brother, Anders, in the national tour this summer.

9. What is your proudest accomplishment?
Taking silver at the World Tour event in Oslo with Christian Sorum.

10. What did you want to be when you were small?
Professional soccer player.

11. What is your favourite game or sport to watch and play aside from volleyball?
Soccer and NBA basketball.

12. Which would you rather do: wash dishes, mow the lawn, clean the bathroom, or vacuum the house?
Mow the lawn.

13. If you could play with another beach volleyball superstar who would it be?
I have never played with any of my brothers so that would be fun.

14. The best advice you’ve received so far from your brother Anders?
Show good sportsmanship.

15. How was your experience at the Slovenia 1-star event?
It was a good debut for Nils and me, 9th place in our first ever WT together.

16. Biggest lesson you’ve learned from that tournament?
That the level is within reach if we work patiently on our game.

17. What makes a good or great beach partner?
To trust that your partner always has your back and to communicate well and chase dreams together.

18. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
To be able to fly would be cool.

19. Name 3 things that you should always have in your volleyball bag?
A water bottle, sunglasses, and a banana.

20. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
Competing at the World Tour events around the world and taking medals every now and then. Established as a World Tour player.
