Slovenia Beach Tour makes welcome start

Preddvor, Slovenia, June 15, 2020 – Tajda Lovsin and Spela Morgan, and Tadej Bozenk and Vid Jakopin claimed the spoils as the first leg of the Slovenia Beach Volleyball Tour took place in Preddvor at the weekend.

Fifty teams descended on Preddvor, a town that lies 30 minutes north of the capital Ljubljana for a tournament that ran over three days.

Lovsin and Spela Morgan were playing in their first tournament as a pair since 2017 and they won women’s gold with a 2-0 (21-10, 21-18) victory over Ana Spoljaric and Lana Zuzek. Klara Kregar and Katarina Fabjan took bronze.

“We are very happy to win and we are also very happy that we are playing together again,” Lovsin said. “We really enjoyed it.

“We did not expect this success since our goal was just to play as well as possible. The competition was of a high level and the organisation was good. It was great.”

In the men’s competition reigning Slovenian champions Bozenk and Jakopin enjoyed a 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) over Hungarian youngsters Artur Hajos and Bence Attila Streli. Sergej Drobnic and Alan Kosenina joined them on the podium with bronze.

“We are slowly trying to raise our form to the right level,” Jakopin said. “All the best Slovenian teams competed here in Preddvor, some came in particularly good shape, and some did not.

“It was a good tournament, and it was good to compete again after the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to compete on the Slovenian national tour.”

The next Slovenian Tour event will take place in Kostanjevica na Krki from July 10-12.
