Greece crowns beach volleyball Elite Series champions

 
  • Moldovanidi & Sakellaridi celebrate as women’s Elite Series Finals champions

Greece’s Elite Series Finals returned to the Karavi Club at Schinias Beach near Athens last weekend. The event crowned the women’s and the men’s champions of the circuit of beach volleyball events that started back in October 2023.

Tatiana Moldovanidi & Persefoni Sakellaridi triumphed with the women’s trophy after a 2-0 (15-9, 15-10) victory over Athina Dilaveri & Areti Teza in Sunday’s final.

The bronze went to Εvanthia Baldoka & Chrysa Giannelou. They delivered a 2-0 (15-13, 15-8) sweep of the third-place match against the duo of Vanessa Thalassinou-Lislevand & Erin Malesic, of Greece and America.

The semi-finals saw fierce competition and both were decided in tie-breaker third sets. Moldovanidi & Sakellaridi managed a 2-1 (13-15, 15-12, 11-8) comeback against Thalassinou-Lislevand & Malesic, while Dilaveri & Teza also recovered from a set down to claim a 2-1 (12-15, 18-16, 11-5) victory over Baldoka & Giannelou.

Antiol Kola defended his 2023 Elite Series Finals title, this time with Vangelis Sideris as his partner. They swept the men’s gold medal showdown against Iason Kanellos & Stavros Ntallas, producing a 2-0 (15-11, 15-11) victory.

Kostas Venios & Antonis Karykas picked up the bronze after a 2-0 (15-13, 15-8) win over Iakovos Kafouros & Christos Tsigaridas.

Both semi-finals were decided in straight sets as well. Kola & Sideris mastered a 2-0 (15-7, 15-9) victory over Kafouros & Tsigaridas, while Kanellos & Ntallas achieved a 2-0 (15-13, 15-10) win over Venios & Karykas.
