Pool play victory catapults Palmer and Grimson into Rubavu semifinals

Rubavu, Rwanda, August 22, 2019 – England’s Victoria Palmer and Jessica Grimson clinched a 2-0 (21-5, 21-9) win over Rwanda’s Christine Nyirarukundo and Pacifique Umulisa in the pool play round, propelling them straight into the semifinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Rubavu 1-star.

Palmer and Grimson completed their Pool B assignment on Thursday with a 1-0 slate that placed them into the quarterfinal draw without any opponent. The bye eventually put them further up the semifinal draw to wait for the completion of the three quarterfinal matches on Friday.

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s Charlotte Nzayisenga and Judith Hakizimana advanced straight to the quarterfinals after receiving a double bye in Pool A, while their compatriots Louise Muhoza and Penelope Musabyimana conceded their match against Denmark’s Signe Zibrandtsen Haaning and Cecile Kollner Olsen 2-0 (21-11, 21-6) in Pool C.
