China’s Wen and Wang start title defence at Zhongwei with two wins

 
Zhongwei, China, August 23, 2019 – Reigning FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Zhongwei 2-star champions Wen Shuhui and Wang Jingzhe started their title defence with two wins in the pool play round on Friday.



The pair netted the gold medal last year in the same tournament, beating compatriots Wang Fan and Xue Chen in the gold medal match. This year, they started their campaign with double victories against Finland’s Ida Sinisalo and Anna Rantala 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) and Slovenia’s Tjasa Jancar and Tjasa Kotnik 2-0 (21-14, 21-12) in Pool A.

Their compatriots Lin Meimei and Zeng Jinjin dominated in Pool B with two tie-break victories over the Netherlands’ Emi van Driel and Raisa Schoon and Japan’s Chiyo Suzuki and Yurika Sakaguchi, while Japanese duos Sayaka Mizoe/Miki Koshikawa (Ishii) and Akiko Hasegawa/Azusa Futami ruled Pools C and D, respectively.

Poland’s Jagoda Gruszczynska and Alexandra Wachowicz cleared their Pool E hurdles with straight-set wins, while Chinese Taipei’s Kou Nai-Han and Liu Pi Hsin won Pool F with three- and two-set victories.
