Hovmann and Stormly extend winning run in Rubavu

 
Rubavu, Rwanda, August 22, 2019 – After winning their qualification match on Wednesday, Denmark’s Nicolai Hovmann Overgaard and Jacob Cordua Stormly extended their winning run to three matches in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Rubavu 1-star.



Hovmann and Stormly opened their main draw campaign with a three-set (22-24, 21-19, 15-11) win over Japan’s Kensuke Shoji and Masato Kurasaka, then stretched their good run of form with a straight-set (21-5, 21-13) triumph over Cyprus’ Antonis Liotatis and Georgios Chrysostomou in the pool play round.

In Pool B, England’s Javier and Joaquin Bello were consistent in both their matches, winning in straight sets to secure the quarterfinal spot. The Bello brothers started with a 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) win over their compatriots Mark Garcia-Kidd and Frederick Bialokoz and finished with a 2-0 (21-18, 21-17) victory against Japan’s Hitoshi Murakami and Keisuke Shimizu.

Meanwhile, Swedish duo Peter Lundgren and Jakob Wijk Tegenrot and Czech Republic pair Martin Sramek and Jakub Gala cleared their respective two pool play hurdles to advance to the quarterfinals.
