Doppler and Horst head to World Championships in winning form

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 10, 2019 – Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst will go into the Hamburg 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in confident mood after they won a second successive gold at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Baden 1-Star tournament.

The Austrian pair, who won silver at the Vienna 2019 World Championships, beat Russia’s Maxim Sivolap and Artem Yarzutkin 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) on Monday in front of a full house of 1,800 at the Baden Stadium.

“The final was amazing, and we would like to thank the crowd because they had to cope with the heat as well, but they stayed and fired us up all the time,” Doppler said. Many thanks to the organisers and everyone that was here to support us.”

It is the second year that the Austrian town has hosted a World Tour event and it ran from June 6 to June 10 with the winning teams claiming $7,500 in prize money.

Alejandro Huerta and Cesar Menendez ended Austrian hopes of a double celebration when they beat Robin Seidl and Christoph Dressler 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 16-14). It completed a remarkable week for the Spanish pair who began the tournament in the qualifiers and ended it with their first World Tour medal in over a year.
