Galindo sisters win first World Tour gold, at Knokke-Heist 1-Star

 
Knokke-Heist, Belgium, August 18, 2019 – Andrea Galindo and Claudia Galindo claimed their first FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour medals when they won the Knokke-Heist 1-Star gold medal match on Sunday. 

The Colombian sisters previous best was a fourth-place finish at the Satun 1-Star in Thailand earlier in 2019, but they ended their wait with a 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-10) victory over Cecilie Køllner Olsen and Sofia Nørager Bisgaard. 


The Danish pair also enjoyed their first World Tour podium place. Their previous best was a ninth-place finish in at the Ulsan and Daegu 1-Star tournaments in 2017. 

The seaside resort close to the Dutch border hosted a World Tour tournament for the first time and it took place at the Evenementenstrand event beach from August 15-18. The winning teams in Knokke-Heist collected the €1,000 first-place prizes and claimed 200 Tokyo 2020 Olympic points.

Top seeds Emi van Driel and Raïsa Schoon reached a World Tour podium for the second time in two weeks when they won the bronze medal a week on from winning bronze at the Budapest 1-Star. 

The Dutch pair, who won gold at the Gothenburg and Alba Adriatica 1-Star tournaments earlier in the year, ended the hopes of a home team finishing on the podium when they defeated Els Vandesteene and Maud Catry 2-0 (21-13, 21-17).
