Austrians dominate Montpellier pool play round

 
Montpellier, France, August 29, 2019 – Three Austrian pairs and one Dutch duo came up with their second win in the pool play round on Friday to move straight to the quarterfinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Montpellier 1-star.



Austria’s Florian Schnetzer and Laurenz Leitner outplayed the second-seeded pair Surin Jongklang and Adisorn Khaolumtarn of Thailand in straight sets (21-19, 21-17) in Pool B, while their compatriots Moritz Fabian Kindl and Mathias Seiser also beat their Thai counterparts Nuttanon Inkiew and Sedtawat Padsawud 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) in Pool C.

In Pool D, Arwin Kopschar and Michael Muraer defeated France’s Jeremy Ullman and Florian Gosselin in a straight-set encounter (21-19, 21-18).

Meanwhile, the Netherlands’ Dirk Boehle and Stefan Boermans stunned French top seeds Quincy Aye and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat in a three-set match. After winning the opening set, the Dutch pair had to recover from the setback in the second set and force the tiebreaker to prevail 2-1 (21-17, 17-21, 15-8).
