Austrian duos reign supreme in Vaduz pool play

 
Vaduz, Liechtenstein, August 8, 2019 – Two Austrian teams – Florian Ertl/Johannes Kratz and Moritz Fabian Kindl/Mathias Seiser – each recorded two victories to come out on top of their respective pools and advance straight into the men’s quarterfinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Vaduz 1-star.



Ertl and Kratz, who made their way into the main draw through qualification, continued their upward trend in Pool B to claim their quarterfinals spot. They defeated Japan’s Nobuaki Taira and Keisuke Shimizu 2-0 (21-11, 21-18) then posted a tie-break comeback win against second-seeded Dutch pair Mees Blom and Yorick de Groot 2-1 (19-21, 26-24, 15-12).

Kindl and Seiser ruled Pool D with back-to-back straight-set triumphs against New Zealand’s Thomas Hartles and Alani Nicklin (21-17, 21-10) and Norway’s Svein Oddmund Solhaug and Jonas Tomter (21-19, 21-15).

Meanwhile, top seeds Ruben Penninga and Jasper Bouter of the Netherlands lived up to expectations and moved straight to the quarterfinals with double straight-set victories.

Third-seeded Polish pair Mariusz Prudel and Mikolaj Miszczuk prevailed in their first match with a tie-break win, then aced their second hurdle in straight sets.
