Unfamiliarity no impediment as Silvestre and Platre top Knokke-Heist podium

Knokke-Heist, August 18, 2019 – Jérémy Silvestre and Timothée Platre marked their FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour debut as a pair at the Knokke-Heist 1-Star tournament by winning gold on Sunday.

The tournament was the French teams’ first in any tournament, and they secured top spot with a 2-1 (18-21, 21-19, 17-15) defeat of Russia’s Pavel Shustrov and Alexey Gusev.

Silvestre won gold at the Ios Island 1-Star earlier in 2019 and he also won one gold and one bronze on the 2018 World Tour. Platre meanwhile won CEV 2019 European Beach Volleyball Championships bronze alongside Théo Faure.

Shustrov and Gusev also won their first World Tour medals, a month on from winning gold at the European U22 Beach Volleyball Championships.

The seaside resort close to the Dutch border hosted a World Tour tournament for the first time and it took place at the Evenementenstrand event beach from August 15-18. The winning teams in Knokke-Heist collected the €1,000 first-place prizes and claimed 200 Tokyo 2020 Olympic points.

Austria’s Maximilian Trummer and Mathias Seiser’s victory in the bronze medal match meant that all three teams on the podium were winning their first World Tour medals.

They ended the hopes of a home medal when they beat Belgium’s Anshel Ver Eecke and Tim Lemmens 2-0 (21-15, 21-13).
