Israel’s Starikov/Dave progress to Vaduz quarterfinals

 
Vaduz, Liechtenstein, August 9, 2019 – With two Japanese teams, one Dutch pair and one Cyprus pair already securing their spots in the quarterfinals, the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Vaduz 1-star resumed on Friday with the remaining women’s pool play matches and the round of 12, where tandems from Israel, Colombia and Paraguay and the Netherlands claimed the remaining spots in the final eight playoffs.



Israel’s Sofia Starikov and Anita Dave have made it this far after starting their journey in the qualification round. After losing their pool play match against the Japanese top seeds, the Israeli pair were forced to play in the round of 12, where delivered a win in straight sets (21-19, 21-9) against Czech Republic’s Teresa Kotlasova and Daniela Resova.

The Netherlands’ Emma Piersma and Pleun Ypma outclassed their European rivals Stephanie Wiesmeyr and Anja Dorfler 2-0 (21-10, 21-7) to move to the next round.

Two South American pairs also prevailed in the round of 12 with their straight-set victories to claim the quarterfinal spots. Paraguay’s Michelle Sharon Valiente Amarilla and Patricia Carolina Caballero Pena and Colombia’s Claudia and Andrea Galindo defeated England’s Victoria Palmer and Jessica Grimson and Scotland’s Lynne Beattie and Melissa Couts, respectively.
