Russians leave worries behind to dominate Polish rivals

Rio de Janeiro, August 7, 2016 – Russia’s Konstantin Semenov and Viacheslav Krasilnikov began their Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games campaign by beating Poland’s Grzegorz Fijalek and Mariusz Prudel 2-0 (21-14, 21-13) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Sunday.

Here’s what they said after the match….

Viacheslav Krasilnikov, Russia
“It is my first Olympic Games and I think we both played very well. It his second Olympic Games and he helped me out with a lot of things, but overall I think we did really well.”

Konstantin Semenov, Russia
“Before the match I told him, ‘don’t worry, be happy. This is the Olympic Games, it is great and you saw what he did in defence and the amazing game he had.”

Mariusz Prudel, Poland
“They played really good today and amazing with the serving block. They played at a really high level and sometime when your opponent plays like that you try your best, but really there isn’t a lot you can do.”

Grzegorz Fijalek, Poland
“We must learn the lessons and focus on our next opponents. I played one of my worst matches this season and I hope we will do much better next time.”
