Losiak and Kantor show nerves of steel on Olympics debut

Rio de Janeiro, August 6, 2016 – Poland’s Bartosz Losiak and Piotr Kantor began their Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games campaign by beating Germany’s Markus Bockermann and Lars Fluggen 2-0 (21-11, 23-21) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Saturday.

Here’s what they said after the match….

Bartosz Losiak, Poland
“It is a very good start for us. We were really nervous as it was our first match in the Olympics and the first time we’ve played in a stadium this big, so we are really happy we won 2-0.

“No we have calmed down and we feel better than we did before the match. Now we can relax and rest. Tomorrow we will have a little practice and then think about the next match.

“It is amazing with so many people and fans all cheering, both for the Germans and us.”

Lars Fluggen, Germany
“We had a really, really bad first set and one mistake after another. The Polish guys didn’t need to be good because we made so many errors and that doesn’t feel good.

“The second set overall was better especially the second half and we made some good shots and got close in the end, but I don’t think we deserved to win that set.

“I didn’t feel nervous; I don’t think that was the reason. We have to think about and maybe it is something technical in our game.”
