News 17/02/2015 Dutch beach volleyball venues multiply in build-up to World Championships Nieuwegein, Netherlands, February 17, 2015 - Speaking recently to Sport&Strategie Online, NeVoBo Sport Director Michel Everaert said the development strategy put in place for beach volleyball in the Netherlands has seen the number of venues for the sport rise sharply in 2014 and 2015, ahead of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015."The number of beach volleyball venues in the Netherlands has grown from four in 2004 to 200 at the end of 2014. It is expected that there will be facilities at an additional 50 locations by the end of 2015, which is a fantastic result," he said.Everaert explained that this growth is largely due to the World Championships, which are scheduled to take place in the four Dutch cities of The Hague, Apeldoorn, Amsterdam and Rotterdam from June 26-July 5. "The World Championships serve as an inspiration and as a tremendous accelerator for beach volleyball in the Netherlands." "Before NeVoBo bid for the World Championships, Rotterdam and Apeldoorn lacked venues for beach volleyball. Around the time at which the competition was allocated to the Netherlands, initiatives were put in place which have spread to other cities across the country. Now that the competition is generating attention, discussions with local authorities have been greatly facilitated."Outdoor venues are relatively inexpensive to build and provide an alternative to indoor volleyball in the summer. They also help to develop participation in the sport. Everaert added: "We are very proud of the growth of beach volleyball in the Netherlands. There is no other sport which is developing as fast in the country. Naturally, there are some problems for us to overcome, but these result from the strong growth of the sport, which of course we welcome.
