FIVB statement on COVID-19 protocols at King of the Court event

The FIVB is aware that beach volleyball players David Schweiner from the Czech Republic and Quentin Métral from Switzerland tested positive for COVID-19 at the King of the Court event in Utrecht, Netherlands organised by Sportworx.

The FIVB understands that both players tested positive for COVID-19 several weeks prior to the event in August. However, both recovered, produced negative test results close to their arrival in the Netherlands and showed no symptoms upon arrival. Therefore, both players were able to  join the tournament bubble. As per event hygiene protocol requirements, everyone within the bubble was required to undergo a PCR test for COVID-19 onsite as part of meticulous health and safety measures, and these two players tested positive.

Immediately following the test results, the players were removed from the tournament and required to self-isolate. Those they were in close contact with, including teammates, were tracked and subsequently quarantined.  Any further actions will adhere to the guidelines stipulated by local health authorities and the remaining players inside the bubble will be tested again on the morning of Friday 11 September.

The FIVB remains in close contact with Sportworx and NEVOBO, and will monitor the situation closely. Rigorous health and safety measures at the event continue to be followed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants.
