Team profile

Turkey

Turkey have qualified once to the Olympic Games, finishing ninth at London 2012. They have also competed three times in the FIVB World Championship. Their highest ranking was sixth place in the 2010 edition. In the most recent Championship in 2014, they finished in ninth place. 
Turkey have won two medals at the European Championship - a silver when they hosted the competition in 2003 and lost 3-0 to Poland in the final, and a bronze in 2011 when they beat Italy 3-2 in the third place playoff. In 2015 Championship, they lost to Serbia 3-0 in the bronze medal match.
Turkey first took part in the FIVB World Grand Prix in 2008, but missed out on the next three editions before returning in 2012 to take the competition by storm and winning the bronze medal. They also made it to the Final Six in 2014, finishing fourth with a 2-3 record. They came eleventh in 2017 after completing pool play in Group 1 with a 2-7 record.

Giovanni Guidetti

After a season coaching the Netherlands Women's National, 45-year-old Italian took charge of Turkey to allow him to spend more time with his wife - Turkish international Bahar Toksoy - and baby daughter. As coach of the Netherlands, he led the side to a silver medal at the 2015 European Championship, bronze at the 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix and an impressive fourth place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Guidetti began his coaching career in 1994, leading several Italian clubs. He has also coached the Bulgarian and German Women's National Teams, leading the latter to silver medals at the 2011 and 2013 European Championship and bronze at the 2009 Grand Prix. Since 2011, he has coached VakifBank Istanbul, winning gold medals at the 2013 and 2017 FIVB Women's Club World Championship.
