Team profile

Argentina

The Argentina women’s team have unfortunately perceived to be in the shadow of their powerhouse neighbours Brazil. They have not won any major trophies, but have been runners-up at the South American Championship six times. They have taken part in the FIVB World Championship numerous time, finishing eighth in their debut appearance in 1960. They were ranked seventeenth in the latest edition in 2014. In 2016, they qualified for the first-time ever for the Olympic Games, finishing ninth overall in Rio after overcoming Cameroon in pool play. Argentina have taken part in the last seven editions of the FIVB World Grand Prix, with their best result coming in their 2011 debut, where they finished 14th overall.

Orduna, Guillermo

Orduna, Guillermo

After leading Argentina to their first ever Olympic Games in Rio, in 2016, Guillermo Orduna has continued to guide the South American side in their bid to make it to Tokyo 2020. This will be Orduna's sixth consecutive season as head coach of the Argentine Women’s National Team. However, Orduna also coached the team from 1991-1996. He led the Argentine Youth Girls’ team at the FIVB World Championship in Macao, in 2005 and has coached in the Argentine A1 Women's League. He has also assisted Jon Uriarte in coaching the Argentine Men’s National Team.
