The Argentina women’s team have unfortunately perceived to be in the shadow of their powerhouse neighbours Brazil. They have not won any major trophies, but have been runners-up at the South American Championship six times. They have taken part in the FIVB World Championship numerous time, finishing eighth in their debut appearance in 1960. They were ranked seventeenth in the latest edition in 2014. In 2016, they qualified for the first-time ever for the Olympic Games, finishing ninth overall in Rio after overcoming Cameroon in pool play. Argentina have taken part in the last seven editions of the FIVB World Grand Prix, with their best result coming in their 2011 debut, where they finished 14th overall.
