Dominican Republic

The Dominican
Republic

It was a solid
season for the Dominican Republic in the inaugural Volleyball Nations League as
the Queens of the Caribbean claimed victories over Argentina, Thailand and
Poland and came up short in three other contests of five sets that could have
gone either way against Korea, Japan and Belgium. Last year also saw the
Dominican side winning the gold medal for a seventh consecutive edition of the
Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia and a silver
medal at the Pan American Cup at home in Santo Domingo falling to United States
in five sets in the decisive match. Winning the bronze medal at the 2009 Grand
Champions Cup still is the biggest global achievement for the Dominicans who
finished fifth at the 2014 World Championship. The Dominicans took part in the
Olympic Games in Athens and London and also participated in every FIVB Grand
Prix since from 2004 until 2017 with eight place rankings in 2006 and
2010.
