Netherlands captain Balkestein-Grothues - We were able to control the game today

Ekaterinburg, Russia, June 18, 2019 - The Netherlands defeated Thailand in three sets in their first match in Ekaterinburg on Tuesday.

Netherlands captain Maret Balkestein-Grothues said: "We were able to control the game today. In the second set, we had some difficulties with saves. We know that Thailand is a very good team and that they play combination volleyball. But we were preparing for this. For the first match here in Ekaterinburg, this is very good."

Netherlands coach Jamie Morrison said: "We are progressing in the course of the tournament. My players showed very good volleyball today."
 
Thailand head coach Danai Sriwacharamaytakul said: "Our unit and reception worked well today. We tried to be better. Tomorrow we play with the hosts, the Russian team, we will try to show a very good volleyball."

Thailand capitan Nootsara Tomkom said: "Today was a very good match.  We worked all the elements of the game. But we could not win. I am sure that tomorrow we will not be easy. But we will try."
