Montreux Masters a prelude to the VNL

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, February 20, 2019 - The 2019 Montreux Volley Masters, entering its 34th year as a pre-season preview to every FIVB season is once more on the forefront, leading up to the 2019 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League: five of this year's eight Montreux Masters entrants will utilise this competition as a buildup to the VNL.

Defending champions Italy will try to replicate their 2018 winning performance, alongside Germany, Japan, Poland, Thailand and Turkey in this year's edition which runs from May 13 to 18, 2019. They will be complemented by a China Under-23 team and the home side of Switzerland.



The final of this year's Montreux Masters will be just a few days before the start of the first week of the VNL, which is set for May
21-23.

Side events at the 2019 Montreux Masters include the 30th edition of a mini-volleyball tournament on the outdoor courts next to the Pierrier Sports Hall, on the shores of Lake Leman.

Last year at the Montreux Masters Italy shut out Russia 3-0 in the final for their first gold medal in 14 years. Turkey edged Brazil 3-2 for bronze. Cuba remain the all-time record title-holders with nine gold medals in 33 editions of the historic tournament.
