Thailand look to end eight-match losing streak against Belgium

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 13, 2018 - Thailand face Belgium, Thursday in Eboli, looking at wrapping up the season with a win that would put an end to their eight-match losing streak. The two sides meet for only the second time in history, after a Thailand win at the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix.

Head-to-Head
• Belgium and Thailand will meet for the second time at a major world level tournament. Thailand won 3-1 at the 2015 World Grand Prix.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• Thailand have only met Argentina (4) and Peru (2) on multiple occasions at major world level competitions without losing.

Belgium

• Belgium claimed two of their three victories during the first week of play. Since then, they suffered 10 defeats in 11 matches.
• Belgium have lost six VNL matches in straight sets, joint-most for them at a single major world level tournament alongside six 3-0 defeats at the 1978 World Championships.
• In their 3-0 defeat against Italy on Wednesday, Marlies Janssens was the only Belgian player to reach double figures in scoring. She scored 13 points.

Thailand

• Thailand last had a longer run of consecutive defeats at world level major competitions at the 2016 and 2017 World Grand Prix, when they lost 10 matches in a row.
• Thailand's two victories this VNL campaign came against Argentina (3-0 on 17 May) and Poland (3-2 on 24 May).
• In their 14 VNL matches this season, Thailand managed to win the first set on only three occasions. They achieved this in the two matches they won, as well as in their 3-2 defeat to Japan on 7 June.
• Hattaya Bamrungsuk was Thailand's top scorer in their match against Brazil, scoring 14 points. She attempted 10 blocks, but failed to score a point from any of those.
