Osaka, Japan, June 10, 2018 - Poland defeated Japan 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-20) in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in Osaka on Sunday.
Japan coach Yuichi Nakagaichi said: "We try to be well-prepared against the higher ranked teams, especially for the difficult moments. I know our players tried to make some adjustments after the match yesterday, but we couldn’t play our volleyball against the soaring blocking by Polish players. We started picking up into the second set, but we struggled with short serves in side-out."
Japan player Tatsuya Fukuzawa: "We had difficulty against the opponent's serves. We need to side-out to win. The Polish team didn’t make strong serves, but some tricky serves. We couldn’t catch up with them until the end."
Japan player Hiroaki Asano: "We had a lot of pressure from the opponent's serves. I should have played better as a key receiver."
Japan player Yuji Nishida: "We played better than yesterday, but we couldn’t make it happen. We couldn’t make effective serves and let the opponents play as they wanted to. We will try to have better communication amongst us on the court tomorrow."
Poland coach Vital Heynen: "I thought that Japan played well and especially they had good servers, but we just played much better than Japan. I am often asked about Nishida. He is still too young and not so tall, but he always jumps very high. The time will come for us to evaluate him when he is 23 or 24 years old."
Poland captain Mateusz Bieniek: "I feel very happy to win the game and I was wary of the game against Japan because they were playing at home. I appreciate the perfect atmosphere and great cheering in the hall."
