Japan up a gear in Toyota

Toyota, Japan, May 23, 2018 - Hosts Japan were satisfied with their 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) victory against Belgium in Toyota on Wednesday.

Belgium captain Ilka Van De Vyver said: "I’ve learned a lot today. Japan is at a really high level. But we did our best, trying to work all the time."

Belgium coach Gert Vande Broek said: "Japan did a good job at a really high level. They had prepared for tonight. Our team wasn’t as strong as yesterday. That’s because Japan made us play not as well as we did yesterday.

"This is the first time our players compete against Asian teams like Japan, China. We have to learn how to play against them."

Japan coach Kumi Nakada said: "Yesterday’s match was really regrettable, so we’d like to change our mood. Tonight I prioritized defense instead of offense."

Japan player Koyomi Tominaga said: "We were encouraged by a great audience, who helped us win. But I’m not satisfied with my playing tonight. I was saved by our spikers."

Japan player Risa Shinnabe said: "Yesterday we played badly, so we discussed our assignments for tonight’s match. We will do the same for tomorrow."

Japan captain Nana Iwasaka said: "It is good for us to get the first win in this Japan round.  As for me, I will have to improve my blocking for tomorrow."
