China look to defend head-to-head record with Argentina

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 26, 2018 - China host Argentina Tuesday in Hong Kong with the South Americans still looking for their first win as the only winless side in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. But Argentina have never defeated China in seven encounters.

Head-to-Head
• China cherish a perfect record against Argentina at world level matches, having won all seven encounters.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• China have only played more world level matches, and kept a perfect record, against Puerto Rico - nine wins from nine matches.
• Argentina have won one set in the seven matches versus China, their 3-1 defeat at the 2012 World Grand Prix.
• Their most recent world major level encounter was at the 2015 World Grand Prix, when China won 3-0.

China
• China have both won three and lost three of their six VNL matches.
• Each of China's last nine defeats in world level matches came in front of a home crowd in China.
• China have won the opening set in nine of their last 10 world level major tournament matches. The exception was the 3-0 loss versus Korea on 17 May.
• Xiaotong Liu is China's top scorer on 63 points.

Argentina
• Argentina are looking for their first win in the 2018 VNL.
• At the 2017 World Grand Prix, their previous major world level tournament, Argentina lost their opening six matches before recording their first victory (3-1 versus Croatia).
• At each of their previous eight world level major tournaments, Argentina claimed at least one victory.
• Argentina's last four defeats all came in straight sets.
• Both Anahi Florencia Tosi (61) and Elina Rodriguez (58) have scored 50+ points in the VNL.
