Argentina count on fan support for first win against Korea

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 9, 2018 - Argentina will be counting on their fans' support at home in Santa Fe on Tuesday to register their first win in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League when they host Korea. But Argentina have never beaten Korea in seven previous enclounters.

Head-to-Head
• Argentina and Korea have met seven times in world level major competitions, with the Koreans winning all of those matches in straight sets.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• Argentina have remained winless in 8+ world level major competition matches against four different opponents: Poland (10 matches, 10 losses), Japan, Italy and China (all 8 matches, 8 losses).
• The only opponents Korea played more often in world level major competitions without ever losing are Canada (11 matches, 11 wins).
• These teams will meet in Argentina for the first time.

Argentina
• Argentina have lost all 12 VNL matches, including each of the last 10 in straight sets. All other teams have won at least two fixtures in this year's tournament.
• Argentina could set a new outright record for most defeats by any team at a single world level major tournament. They are currently even with Germany: 12 in the World Grand Prix in both 1995 and 2001.
• Argentina have set a new negative team record for most straight-set defeats in a single world level major tournament. The last team to lose more than 10 matches in straight sets in a single world level major tournament were Algeria (11 at the 2015 World Cup).
• Argentina have won at least one match in each of their last eight world level major tournaments, since they lost all nine fixtures in the 2012 World Grand Prix.
• Argentina have won only two sets in the VNL, in 3-1 defeats against Russia and The Netherlands in their opening two fixtures in the tournament. They won the first set on both occasions.

Korea
• Korea have won five and lost seven matches in the 2018 VNL. They have suffered six straight-set defeats in the tournament.
• Korea have never recorded more than six straight-set defeats in a single world level major competition.
• Korea have won five VNL matches. In the last 15 years, they only won at least six matches in one major world level tournament: at the 2017 World Grand Prix (9).
• Korea can win their 200th match in a world level major competition.
• Kim Yeon Koung (178 points) is Korea's most prolific scorer in the 2018 VNL. She is sixth place on the overall ranking.
