FIVB Volleyball Empowerment supported Bahrain dominate GCC Youth Games volleyball tournament

FIVB Volleyball Empowerment beneficiary Bahrain topped the final men’s volleyball standings at the 1st GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Youth Games, taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) hired Argentinean coach Ruben Wolochin to help guide the country’s national teams with funding from FIVB Volleyball Empowerment. The programme has so far allocated a total of CHF 180,000 worth of coach support assistance to Bahrain.

Their representatives at the GCC Youth Games dominated in the single round-robin competition and achieved five wins in a row to triumph with the gold medals undefeated. After straight-set victories over Kuwait, Qatar and Oman, and successful five-set battles with Saudi Arabia and hosts UAE (pictured in the main photo; credits: UAE NOC), Bahrain conquered the inaugural title on a total of 13 points.

The silver went to Saudi Arabia, who collected 12 points, while Kuwait claimed the bronze with 10 points on their record. UAE, Qatar and Oman lined up in the places from fourth to sixth.

The champions received their gold medals from the BVA President Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.

The 1st GCC Youth Games, featuring 24 sports and about 3,500 athletes, are taking place from 16 April to 2 May.
