AUSTRIA
The 2024 Austrian national beach volleyball tour got underway with the first tournament held in Neusiedl am See last week. Slovenian wild cards Tjasa Kotnik & Tajda Lovsin celebrated on top of the women’s podium after a narrow 2-0 (27-25, 21-19) victory over another wild-card participant, the mixed Austrian-German pairing of Katharina Holzer & Isabel Schneider, in Sunday’s gold medal match. The bronze went to Anna Katharina Mayr & Sara Neiss following an injury forfeit win of the third-place game against Lilli Hohenauer & Lia Berger.
In a hard-fought three-set men’s final, Mathias Seiser & Laurenc Grossig earned a 2-1 (21-15, 18-21, 15-10) victory over Timo Hammarberg & Jakob Reiter to triumph as tournament winners. Felix Friedl & Alexander Huber managed a hard-fought 2-0 (23-21, 21-17) win over Niels Antoni & Raphael Trauth in the bronze medal match to complete the podium.

KENYA
The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) held its first stop of the 2024 national beach volleyball tour over the weekend with a men’s tournament at the Strathmore University grounds in Nairobi. Brian Melly & Edward Kibet triumphed after beating Elphas Makuto & Jairus Kipkosgei by 2-1 (22-20, 15-21, 15-11) in the final. Benson Macune & Julliard Mbappe finished in third place to claim the bronze medal after a 2-0 (21-19, 22-20) win over Donald Mchete & Philip Chemwor.
