Bariloche in Argentina to host third event on 2019 Snow Volleyball World Tour

Lausanne, Switzerland, February 25, 2019 - The FIVB is pleased to confirm a third event on the inaugural 2019 FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour, which will take place in Bariloche, Argentina and be organised in cooperation with the Argentine Volleyball Federation (FeVA).

The event in Bariloche, in Argentina’s Rio Negro province, will take place from August 1 to 4 and follow two other events co-organized by the FIVB and CEV in Wagrain-Kleinarl, Austria from March 28 to 31 and Plan de Corones/Kronplatz, Italy from April 4 to 7, both announced earlier. The new event takes the Snow Volleyball World Tour to a second continent creating an additional opportunity for teams worldwide to participate in the competition.

Snow Volleyball World Tour tournaments will be open to teams from the five Continental Confederations and include a day of qualifiers featuring 16 teams and a three-day main draw with four pools of three teams each and all teams advancing to a single elimination phase.

The first edition of the FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour was launched following the success of Snow Volleyball Night at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, which was co-organized by the FIVB and CEV in cooperation with the Austrian National Olympic Committee, and of the first edition of the CEV European Snow Volleyball Championships in Wagrain-Kleinarl last year. The FIVB intends to continue growing the Snow Volleyball World Tour with the introduction of additional events in 2019/2020 on four continents. The events will be part of a seven-year plan which may also include showcases and competitions at the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games, the 2021 CISM World Winter Games and other events.

The FIVB has also launched a homologation process for snow volleyball in order to stimulate the growth of National, Zonal and Continental events. Homologated events will run in accordance with the 2018-2020 Snow Volleyball Rules of the Game and teams participating will be attributed FIVB Snow Volleyball World Ranking points. Homologated tournaments will also be included in the event calendar on fivb.com.
