Paraguayan beach volleyball sees improvement with FIVB support

The FIVB is continuing to improve the level of national volleyball teams worldwide in order to enhance the popularity and accessibility of the sport, with the Paraguayan Volleyball Federation being the latest National Federation to benefit.

Since 2018, the Paraguayan Volleyball Federation has benefited from various types of support, including: a knowledge transfer programme in 2018, the supply of a Senoh beach volleyball net and net system in 2019 and 12-months of coaching support in 2020 and 2021.

As part of the latest 12-months of coaching support set to end this February, Prof. Francismar Adriano Dias Garrido of Brazil was appointed to lead the Paraguay women’s national beach volleyball team.

During the project, Prof. Garrido helped to establish an international circuit including Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile and Japan, to help the players gain experience against strong teams. This access to consistent strong competition helped lead the national team to some great results at an international level, including reaching the Final Round of the South American Continental Cup after winning all four matches in the initial stages of the competition.

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“The FIVB’s Volleyball Empowerment and development programmes allow us to improve the level of international volleyball by reinvesting the money that comes from the sport back into the sport. The impact of our support can be seen in the improvement of Paraguay’s results in beach volleyball at an international level.

Paraguayan Volleyball Federation President Mr Bruno Zubizarreta said:

“Since the arrival of Prof. Francismar Garrido, there has been a significant increase in the quality of the Paraguay women’s national beach volleyball team. His dynamic vision for the game has also helped to better structure practice and game sessions for our athletes.”
